The client operates in the logistics and supply chain industry, building web-based transportation management software for third-party logistics providers across the USA and Canada. Their platform gives complete visibility over freight in transit, carrier relationships, trade compliance, and on-time delivery.
All of this happens through three dedicated portals: Brokers who source and book carriers, Customers who track their shipments in real time, and Carriers who manage agreements and equipment details. As the platform grew and the product roadmap expanded, the underlying architecture couldn’t keep up. We partnered to rebuild it from the ground up, making it faster, smarter, and ready for the road ahead.
The Challenges
The platform had the right idea, but the wrong foundation. By the time we were brought in, performance issues had started to limit the business. The architecture needed a careful, planned rebuild — one that didn’t disrupt operations while it happened. A few key challenges defined the scope of what needed to change:
- Sluggish performance: Slow load times, poorly structured APIs, and an inefficient front end were dragging down daily operational workflows.
- Desktop-grade expectations, browser-based reality: The client needed the platform to feel fast and fluid, like a proper desktop application, while running entirely in the browser.
- Outdated third-party integrations: Multiple external connections had been built for a legacy desktop system and were no longer compatible with modern .NET standards.
- Architecture that couldn’t grow: The client had a clear roadmap ahead, like billing, payments, compliance, real-time notifications, and AI-assisted logistics. But the existing codebase wasn’t built to support any of it without significant risk to what was already running.
How We Helped
Our approach was straightforward: rebuild for speed, design for scale, and leave room for what comes next.
The entire platform was rebuilt on .NET Core 8 and Blazor WebAssembly — a modern stack that delivers genuine desktop-like performance directly in the browser. Smart state management, component virtualization, and selective data refresh eliminated the sluggishness that had become a daily frustration. Third-party integrations were rebuilt from scratch, aligned with current API standards, and optimized for stability and low latency.
The rebuild also introduced a set of new modules that meaningfully extended the platform’s capabilities:
- Broker & Carrier Modules: Real-time load visibility, advanced carrier search, availability tracking, compliance monitoring, and exception management — consolidated in one place.
- Order Module: End-to-end order tracking with advanced filtering, full audit logs, and visibility across active, pending, delayed, and historical orders.
- Integrated Mapping: Built on Google Maps, with shortest-route planning, live traffic overlays, and cost-based routing for smarter dispatching decisions.
- Real-Time Live Chat: A built-in communication layer connecting dispatchers, carriers, and brokers — removing the dependency on external messaging tools entirely.
- AI-Powered Logistics Bot: A domain-trained assistant that handles carrier matching, ETA prediction, document summarization, anomaly detection, and routine support tasks automatically.
Results
The rebuilt platform delivered an 80% improvement in overall performance, which was measurable and something users felt from day one. Operationally, the shift has been significant. Dispatchers, brokers, and customers now work from a single, coherent system with real-time visibility across loads, carriers, and orders, backed by live data and exportable reports.
